Session topics include:
Using popular culture in preaching. November 8, 2019 - American popular culture has its own voice to add to the choir of meaning that we try to create. We will explore three popular artists – Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Janis Ian – to hear their messages for us and our people.
Using poetry in preaching. January 10, 2020 - Some would say that preaching is already poetry, if you are doing it right. We will explore the work of Yehuda Amichai, Admiel Kosman, and Mary Oliver.
Other preachers you should know. March 20, 2020 - The truth is: We don’t get out that much to hear what others are doing. This is your opportunity. Meet Tom Long, Barbara Brown Taylor, and yes, even David Brooks.
Preaching your environment - the text of your surroundings. May 8, 2020 - How does your geographical and physical environment influence your message – and should it? Does it matter if your worship space is on a busy street, or a country lane, or across from a shopping mall, or in an inner city? You can preach the text. Here is how to preach the context.
