CutTime® Simfonica with host Rick Robinson

The free program includes vignettes from Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and Ellington as well as original, funky-romantic pieces by Rick Robinson.

Robinson, a retired bassist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, has been aligned with strong, new music for decades. After a successful debut of in 2006 of his full-orchestral piece with the DSO, the self-taught composer began writing more deliberately with the idea of launching a smaller outreach ensemble of strings. Last summer he introduced a series of club classical events in Pittsburgh-area breweries.

Performing with Robinson are Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra musicians Shannon Fitzhenry, violin, Boxianzi Vivian Ling, violin, Sean Juhl, viola, Rimbo Wong, viola, Charlie Powers, violoncello, and Bert Lerini, percussion.

This concert is a program of the Music and More at Rodef Shalom series. The series is supported in part by a grant from Seth Stark in memory of his father, Sidney Stark, Jr.
