Painter Ellis Silvette, My Grandfather

Join us for this free lecture by David Heller about his grandfather's portraits and their connection to our Pittsburgh Jewish Community.

Lecturer David Heller, retired from the Food and Drug Administration following a career in analytical chemistry, has been researching his family’s history for the past three years. He knew that his maternal grandfather, E. Myer Silverberg who was later known as Ellis Silvette, grew up in Pittsburgh and was a noted portrait artist.  Heller began researching Silvette’s life and career and has documented more than 150 of his grandfather’s paintings.
