Tools for Elul: Share Your Story!
A few years ago, our Flourishing Team of congregants and staff established a beautiful tradition during the month of Elul, in which we share our personal and heartfelt stories as a community.
We have been inspired by friends and family as we deepen our connections to each other. This tradition allows us to share and explore opportunities for growth in the New Year through Tools for Elul. Daily through the month of Elul, a congregant's inspirational message will be emailed to every Rodef Shalom member.
As the High Holy Days quickly approach, with the month of Elul a little over a month away, we continue this tradition and we hope you participate! We ask again that you partner with us on another journey of our community writing project, Tools for Elul.
As we did last year, we invite you to write a short piece of inspiration that will be shared with the congregation throughout the month preceding Rosh Hashanah. This year, our New Year's theme is drawn from Rabbi Hillel's teaching: "If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am only for myself, what am I? If not now, when?" (Pirke Avot 1:14)
Specifically, we will focus on: If Not Now, When?
Please use this theme to submit a personal story that may involve one of these four subjects:
Friends & Family (e.g. repairing relationships, forgiveness, making time)
Heart & Soul (e.g. mindfulness, following passion, identity, embracing who you are)
Repair the World (e.g. helping others, social consciousness)
Learning & Achievement (e.g. try something new, take a class, creativity, curiosity, risk)
Please click HERE to submit your thoughtful message by August 12, 2019. Your written piece will be no longer than 350 words.
