Tools for Elul: If Not Now, When?
To help with our preparations for the High Holy Days, we will publish daily messages throughout the month of Elul submitted by our Rodef Shalom community through email, Facebook, and Twitter. We would like your help with thoughtful reflections that you are willing to share with us. Together, we will tell the stories of our community as we prepare for the High Holy Days.
This year, our New Year’s theme is drawn from Rabbi Hillel’s teaching: "If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am only for myself, what am I? If not now, when?" (Pirke Avot 1:14)
Specifically, we will focus on: If Not Now, When?
As you reflect on this theme, your writing submission can focus on one of four categories: friends and family, heart and soul, repair the world, or learning and achievement. Your message should be no longer than 350 words. We will begin publishing messages on Sunday, Sept. 1 for 29 days. Please submit your story as soon as it is ready! If you have a photo that you would like to submit as well, please email it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
