Our speaker, Dr. Jeffrey Brodsky, will present "How do the cells in your body repair their ‘broken windows’: A blueprint for human disease and ageing."
About Our Speaker:

Dr. Jeffrey Brodsky is the Avinoff Professor of Biological Sciences and the Director of the Center for Protein Conformational Diseases at the University of Pittsburgh. He also holds a secondary appointment in the School of Medicine. Dr. Brodsky received his Ph.D. at Harvard University and performed post-doctoral research at the University of California-Berkeley with Randy Schekman (Nobel Laureate, 2013), prior to joining the faculty at Pittsburgh in 1994. Dr. Brodsky will discuss how cells in our bodies repair themselves when damaged, and why defects in this process lead to myriad human diseases, as well as ageing. As a result of his work, Dr. Brodsky won the Pitt Innovator Award (2007), was elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (2013), received the University Chancellor's Outstanding Research Award (2022), and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2024).
