An accomplished storyteller, Rabbi Michael Zedek is the featured 2024 Ruth and Bernard Levaur Contemporary Lecture series speaker. He will discuss his recently-released book, Taking Miracles Seriously: A Journey to Everyday Spirituality.
Rabbi Zedek draws on a range of materials in his book including biblical tales, Indian and Japanese folklore, the works of St. Augustine, Einstein, Isaac Bashevis Singer, and Groucho Marx. He takes readers through a search for spiritual sustenance in everyday life. Listeners will learn how to identify and appreciate the miraculous; take God seriously when much of the intellectual world doesn’t; and make the most out of underutilized spiritual resources including poetry and prayer.
Rabbi Emeritus of The Temple, Congregation B'nai Jehudah in Kansas City, and Chicago’s Emanuel Congregation, Rabbi Zedek serves as Rabbi-in-Residence at the Saint Paul School of Theology in Leawood, Kansas. He speaks worldwide on themes related to spirituality. His talks for professional groups have taken him to South Africa, Israel, Russia, Italy, and China, among other countries.
The Rabbi has a significant profile in the interfaith community. He recently concluded a 29-year run as the founder and host of the radio broadcast Religion on the Line. He is the author of a number of articles for professional and popular journals.
