We Stand with Chabad of Poway.

On the last day of Passover observed in 5779, six months after Tree of Life*or L'Simcha lost 11 of its members in a deadly attack fueled by hate, another synagogue was targeted in a violent act. This time, in San Diego, CA on April 27, another Jewish life was tragically lost to gunfire.

Lori Kaye, 60, of Poway, has been identified as the woman killed. Those injured include Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein, Noya Dahan, 8, and Almog Peretz, 34. We ask that you join us in remembering their names in prayer tonight at 6 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center for a gathering in solidarity with Chabad of Poway, the Jewish community of Poway, California and the greater San Diego community in Levinson Hall. We stand with Chabad of Poway synagogue. We lift up our support to the family members of Lori, who are now grieving her tragic loss, and to all who witnessed this hateful act. As we gather this week, our prayers will be focused on Chabad of Poway's healing, both spiritual and physical, as our community knows well that other wounds from an attack of this kind cannot be seen. We continue to stand against hate, and we continue to focus our attention on what we can do to repair the world, Tikkun Olam, restore civil discourse, and end attacks driven by ignorance, hate and anti-semitism.

At Rodef Shalom, we continue to maintain increased security with visible armed guards onsite, while holding onto a welcoming synagogue that is open to all. Our goal is to remain safe and secure, and open and inviting to our community, and we will continue this important work.

For those in our community who need more support at this time, we encourage you to call JFCS Counseling Services at 412-422-7200. At night and over the weekend, you can talk with someone right away by calling the Center for Victims Hotline at 1-866-644-2882.

We are also here to listen. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Murray Klein Executive Director Barry Weisband at 412-621-6566 ext. 119 or by emailing weisband@rodefshalom.org.
